The contribution of the non-Spanish population to the prosperity of Orihuela Costa is principally in the form of taxes and in particular from the building activity taking place all over the area. In the Orihuela Costa area there is a potential of more than 25,000 votes which makes it realistic to elect several municipal councillors.

The present municipal council comprises 14 representatives of the Partido Popular, 6 from the Liberal Centre Party, 4 from the Socialist Party and 1 from the IVth Bloc.

Many of us believe that the only way we can influence the situation for the better is to elect representatives directly to the municipal council. For this reason the initiative was recently taken to form a new political party. The name of the party is CLARO signifying: Close to the people; Honest (Limpio); Activist; Reformist; Orihuela Costa.
